Storage: Departmental (S: Drive)

Category: Data Storage and Retrieval

Shared storage provision for administrative and departmental documents.

Features

•The only documents that should be stored on these areas are departmental documents such as those for administration and teaching. Any research data should be stored on Personal Research Storage (PRS) or Shared Research Storage (SRS).

•Departmental shared file storage appears as drive S:

•All data is stored under top level folders which have associated groups (Full Access, Read Only) for access.

•Each S:drive has a single quota, this is for the entire drive and not related to specific folders.

•Any new S:drives will be provisioned with 50GB of storage capacity.

Request Process

•Most departments will already have such an area, new staff members will need to request access through the IT Service Desk (requests for access will need to include details of all relevant folders).

•Any request for access will need to be approved by the relevant departmental administrator.

•If your department does not have such an area, departmental storage can be requested through the Self Service Portal (accessible using the link to the right of this article). All new requests need Head of Department authorisation.

Support Process

If you need to request an increase in your S:drive quota, please use the Self Service Portal (accessible using the link to the right of this article).

For information on how to recover documents or to map your S:drive to your device, please access the relevant Knowledge Article (accessible using the link to the right of this article).
